Hexagram 55: Abundance
丰 · Fēng · upper Thunder over lower Fire
This is the peak: thunder and lightning together, fullness at its height, the light at its brightest.
The reading
Abundance is the hexagram of the peak. Thunder above and fire below create the blaze in the whole book: fullness at noon, the harvest at its height, success at its brightest. Everything you worked for is here, now. The hexagram celebrates this without reservation. But it also knows what peaks do. The sun at noon has already begun its descent. Abundance is not a condition to be maintained; it is a moment to be used.
The instruction is to spend the peak, not to save it. Be generous: share the harvest, fund the worthy, give the light away. Be useful: decide the cases, finish the work, put the brightness to work while it shines. Do not cling to the noon or grieve its passing. Peaks are for giving. What you give away becomes the seed of the next ascent, and the generous are remembered when the dark comes.
The image
Thunder crashes and lightning flashes as one great blaze. The wise judge with clarity and carry out what is decided, because at the peak there is no room for delay.
At the peak, give the light away; hoarding it only darkens you.

In love and relationships
In love, Abundance is the radiant peak: the honeymoon, the reunion, the season when everything glows. Celebrate it fully and give generously within it: attention, affection, delight. Do not try to freeze the noon in place; peaks pass, and clinging to them poisons the memory. Use the brightness while it shines to build the reserves of goodwill that carry a bond through darker seasons. What you give at the height becomes the story you both tell later, warmly.
In work and career
At work, Abundance is the banner year: record revenue, the big promotion, influence at its height. Spend it, do not save it. Fund the worthy projects, reward the people who built it, decide the pending cases while your judgment is clear. Do not mistake the peak for a plateau; the noon sun is already descending. Leaders who are generous at the height are followed in the valley. Those who hoard the light find themselves alone in the dark.
When you have a decision to make
When a real decision is on the table, Abundance says to decide generously and quickly. The light is at its brightest now; do not deliberate the peak away. Choose the option that shares the harvest and puts the brightness to work. Beware the decision driven by fear of the coming descent; hoarding the noon only darkens you. The right decision here spends the peak well: generous, useful, and complete, leaving no pending case for the dusk.
The six changing lines
Read only the lines that came up moving in your own cast. If none did, stay with the hexagram as a whole. Each line below links to the hexagram that line turns into.
Abundance locked in the house, the family screened away. Peering through the door at emptiness, three years without meeting; misfortune.
Bringing what is beautiful to the abundance. Praise rightly given at the peak returns as good fortune doubled.
Stars at noon, but now you meet the hidden ruler. In the darkened blaze, finding the true center brings good fortune.
Stars at noon again, and the right arm is broken. Power impaired at the height; yet handled honestly, there is no blame.
The curtain is so full that stars show at noon: darkness amid the blaze. Going now brings suspicion; hold sincerity and good fortune follows.
Meeting the one you were destined to meet. At the start of abundance, the right encounter carries no blame; going forward brings honor.
