I Ching Explained

Disclosure

Affiliate disclosure

Short version: this site is paid for by advertising and by affiliate links, and neither one buys an opinion.

How the site makes money

Two ways, both ordinary:

  • Display advertising. Ad slots on some pages are served by Google AdSense. We do not choose which specific ads appear.
  • Affiliate links. A few pages, all of them under Learn, recommend books and casting equipment. If you follow one of those links and buy something, we may earn a commission.

Current status

No affiliate programme is active on this site yet. The recommendation modules you may see under Learn link to ordinary, untagged search results. We earn nothing from them, and they are marked rel="noopener" rather than rel="sponsored", so nothing about them is disguised.

When programmes are enabled, this page will say which ones, every recommendation will carry the disclosure inline, and the links will be marked rel="sponsored". The terms in the sections below describe what will then apply — they are written now rather than rushed in later.

Where you will and will not see them

Affiliate links appear on two pages only: the I Ching coins guide and the translations comparison. Both are pages where a reader is already trying to decide what to buy.

They will never appear inside a hexagram reading — not in the love, work or decision sections. A page about what to do with a difficult situation is not a place to sell something, and putting a product link there would undermine the only thing this site is actually offering.

How links are marked

Affiliate links are labelled inline where they appear, and the link itself carries rel="sponsored" so that search engines can identify it. You should never have to guess whether a link on this site is commercial.

What we will not do

  • We do not accept payment for a positive review, a ranking position, or a mention.
  • We do not invent star ratings or claim hands-on experience with products we have not used. Where a page compares books, it describes what each edition is for — which is public knowledge about published translations — rather than pretending to a personal verdict.
  • We only recommend something if we have already written about it. If a page has no honest reason to mention a product, we drop the page rather than add the product. That is why there is no "best I Ching app" page here: we could not verify what we would have to claim about those apps, so we did not write it at all.
  • We do not let advertisers see or influence editorial content.

If a recommendation is ever shaped by anything other than "this is useful to someone asking this question", it will be stated on the page.

Prices and availability

Prices, editions and availability change constantly, and we do not track them. For that reason our links point to a search result rather than a single frozen product listing — a link that still works is more useful than a price that was accurate last month.

Questions

If anything here is unclear, or you think a link has been placed dishonestly, write to [email protected]. See also our privacy policy and terms.
